The Training Barn: Session Four
In March I went back down to the New Forest for the fourth in person session of my year-long mentorship with The Training Barn. It's become a real part of my life going down there, and the though there's only two more in person sessions after this makes me very sad.
The first day was all about our portfolio, curating it to display exactly the sort of work we love to do, and putting together a set of images that attracts our dream client. I had loads of fun putting my new portfolio together, although it was hard choosing my top 20 from years worth of gorgeous photoshoots.
We also spoke about who our dream client was and how we can really niche down, making the decision to only work with people and produce work that lights us up. This is really important for a long career, especially for me as it really is my dream job.
Of course, we did some practical photoshoots, too.
We went to a lovely home yard in the New Forest. Catherine and her three horses were fabulous models, and despite it still feeling a little like winter, the light was gorgeous and I captured some stunning photos of them.

The second day we went into great detail about exhibiting at shows and events. Something I'd really love to do this year and going forward. I started this business just before COVID hit, and I've never had chance to have stands at shows, so it's something I'd really love to do. Of course I've been so inspired over the two days I can't wait to get some shows booked in towards the end of 2022 & throughout 2023.
For the second day's shoot we weren't gifted with great weather. There was actually a sand storm that had blown over the UK from the desert which gave everything a little orange tinge... It also rained after the first 15 minutes, so we just had to call it a day before everyone got soaked. We did have two lovely models to work with, and a livery yard with a whole host of gorgeous textures to use as backdrops.
