If you know anything about me you will know that chestnuts are my absolute favourites. So when I knew I had these two orange beauties to photograph I was beyond excited.

Mum & Daughter - Sarah & Abi - received their shoot as a gift from a mutual friend of ours. They decided to go for a mid-summer shoot at their lovely livery yard near Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. It was that time of year where all the fields are slowly turning to golden stubble, with deep green trees and hedgerows. I really loved this combination of background, chestnut and the outfits they chose. I felt like it all came together really well.

Sarah & abi had picked two outfits each, so we did each on their own with their horse, and then some shots of them together. Their livery yard was full of beautiful locations. Bridle paths, stubble fields, barn doors, stone walls and a firm favourite wooden gate (of course!)

With both horses on rehab from injuries, we took it steady to see how they would get on. We started off on the bridleway that went off the yard, then used the entrance to a nearby stubble field and then moved onto some of the long grass on the way to their field. Sarah & Abi both started off with dresses so I felt like these locations worked well with the outfits.

They both got changed into jeans and a top with boots so we went with stone walls, barn entrances and wooden gates after that which worked really well with these outfits, too.

At the end of their shoot we let both horses loose in the school to get some liberty shots of them both which was really lovely to finish off with.

A few weeks ago I received the sad news that Sarah has lost Queenie. It's always heart wrenching to hear of a client losing a horse.

I'm so glad we did their shoot when we did, as they'll always have such lovely photos to remind them of a happy day spent at home together.
