A Familiar Face, a Few Years On...
One of the loveliest things about being an equine photographer is welcoming clients back and seeing just how much life has changed since their last portrait session.
I first photographed Arabella a few years ago at Shipley Park, so it was wonderful to see her again in July 2026, this time at her own yard with her three lovely ponies, Nettie, Marley and Jasper.
I couldn't believe how much she'd grown up!
There's something particularly special about photographing children with their ponies over the years. The ponies become such a huge part of their childhood, and having photographs from different stages of their lives creates a beautiful record of those memories.
This time, we wanted to create something completely different from our first session together, making the most of the familiar surroundings of home.
And what a gorgeous summer evening we had for it!
Riverside Portraits, Beautiful Light and an Unexpected Guest...
We started our session exploring the yard, making the most of the beautiful trees and the little river running through the bottom of the property. The summer light was gorgeous, and we created some wonderfully natural portraits of Arabella with Nettie, Marley and Jasper.
Having three ponies meant plenty of opportunities to capture their individual personalities, alongside some lovely photographs of everyone together. We also made sure to capture a gorgeous family portrait of Arabella with all three ponies, which proved particularly popular with the grandparents when they joined us for the private viewing.
After exploring the outdoor locations, we headed back towards the barn, where Arabella's mum, Rachel, had requested something a little different. She particularly loved the idea of portraits against a dark background, so we made use of the barn entrance to create some beautiful, timeless images.
With a simple stool and some lovely natural light, we created a completely different look from our riverside photographs.
And, rather unexpectedly, one of the resident chickens decided it wanted to join in too!
You really never quite know what's going to happen when photographing animals, but that's all part of the fun.
Capturing the Different Chapters of Life...
What made this session particularly meaningful was the opportunity to capture another chapter of Arabella's childhood.
Looking back at her first photographs from Shipley Park and comparing them with this beautiful July evening, it's incredible to see how much she's grown and changed. (white dress image is from 2024, blue skirt from 2026)
And while we were creating new memories, there was also a particularly special reason for including Jasper.
Jasper had been facing some health challenges, making the opportunity to capture these photographs together all the more precious.
I'm so pleased we were able to include him in such a lovely, relaxed session, surrounded by the people and ponies he knew so well. That's something I find particularly wonderful about returning clients. Every session tells a different story, and even when we're photographing the same people, we're capturing a completely different moment in their lives.
Arabella and her ponies now have another beautiful collection of photographs to look back on, from a gorgeous summer evening spent together at home.
I am sure that in another few years, when she looks back at these portraits, she'll remember not only how much she loved Nettie, Marley and Jasper, but all the little moments that made this chapter of her life so special.
If you've been thinking about arranging a portrait session with your horse or pony, I'd love to help you capture this chapter of your story, whatever that might look like.
