There’s something special about a sunrise session in summer. The light is soft, the air is fresh, and it’s the ideal way to keep dogs comfortable before the heat of the day. For this shoot, I met Danni, Jamie, and their Shiba Inu, Suki, in the heart of the Peak District — one of my favourite locations to work in.
The Peaks offer so much variety: dramatic ridgelines, quiet woodland paths, and wide open moorland. It’s a setting that gives every image a sense of place and character — perfect for creating portraits that feel as unique as the people (and dogs) in them.
Like most dog owners, Danni and Jamie had plenty of snapshots of Suki on their phones, but very few photographs of them all together. A professional portrait session changes that. It’s about more than just taking pictures — it’s about creating something intentional, considered, and worth displaying in your home for years to come.
Suki was a joy to work with. My approach is simple: keep the session relaxed and let the dog set the pace. Suki really got the memo, at one point she jumped onto a rock and demanded I took her portrait there, it was super cute!
In summer, I always choose early mornings to avoid the midday heat, to ensure the experience is as enjoyable for the dog as it is for the humans. We walked, explored, and stopped at locations that caught our eye. This way, the images we created felt natural, unforced, and true to the moment.
Our dogs are part of the family, and the time we have with them passes quickly. A professional session is a way to preserve this chapter of your life in a way that’s both beautiful and lasting.
If you’ve ever found yourself wishing for more photographs of you with your dog — not just of your dog — a session in the Peak District might be exactly what you need.
Let’s create something timeless. Join me for a relaxed sunrise walk in the Peaks, and I’ll capture portraits you’ll be proud to display.
