A Little Girl and Her Very Special Pony...
There's something absolutely magical about the relationship between a little girl and her pony, and my July portrait session with four-year-old Immy and her gorgeous palomino Welsh Section A, Popcorn, was the perfect example.
Popcorn joined the family as a very special present for Immy's third birthday, although he's come a long way since they first got him.
But looking at him now, standing beautifully beside Immy with daisies tucked into his mane, you'd never have guessed.
It's lovely to see how much he's developed into such a wonderful pony for Immy, and capturing their relationship at this stage of their lives was incredibly special. We'd actually postponed their portrait session from the previous year because Emily had her heart set on photographs amongst beautiful, golden wheat fields.
And I'm so pleased we waited, because the setting couldn't have been more perfect!
Golden Wheat Fields, Pretty Pink Dresses and a Gorgeous Summer Morning...
We were treated to the most beautiful sunny morning in July, with gorgeous golden wheat stretching out around us.
Immy arrived wearing the sweetest little pink dress, and we even decorated Popcorn's beautiful mane with daisies.
Honestly, could you imagine anything cuter?
As an equine photographer, I absolutely love working with children and their ponies. There's something wonderful about capturing their personalities at such a young age, especially when horses are already such a big part of their lives.
And Immy was an absolute superstar throughout the morning!
She'd decided that she only wanted to wear her pretty pink dress, and that was absolutely fine by me.
I always want my portrait sessions to feel relaxed and enjoyable, particularly when little ones are involved. There's no need to force outfit changes or stick rigidly to a plan when everyone is already having a lovely time.
After making the most of the gorgeous wheat fields, we headed back towards the stables for a few final photographs.
And these weren't your average stables!
The family had converted old corrugated iron feed silos into wonderfully quirky stables, which provided such a fun and unusual backdrop for our final portraits.
We finished with some lovely photographs of Immy sitting in the stable doorway, alongside a few family portraits with her mum, Emily, and dad, Dan.
A gorgeous collection of memories from a very special summer morning.
Capturing the Magic of Childhood and the Ponies Who Shape It...
One of the things I love most about photographing children with their ponies is knowing just how precious these photographs will become as the years go by. At four years old, Immy has so many wonderful adventures ahead of her with Popcorn. And I think there's something particularly lovely about documenting their relationship now, especially knowing how far Popcorn has come since joining the family.
From his rather wild beginnings to becoming such a lovely little pony for Immy, he's already been on quite a journey.
And as Immy grows up, their story will continue to change too. There will be pony rides, muddy boots, early mornings at the stables and countless little moments that make growing up with horses so special.
But she'll only be four once.
Years from now, I am sure Immy and her family will look back at these portraits and remember that beautiful July morning. Her favourite pink dress, the daisies in Popcorn's mane and the gorgeous golden fields surrounding them.
Not just how little Immy looked, but what life felt like at this wonderful age.
For Emily and Dan, these photographs are also a beautiful reminder of their little girl growing up and the wonderful pony Popcorn has become.
Sometimes, it's the simplest moments that become the most treasured memories.
If your little one has a pony they absolutely adore, I'd love to help you capture this wonderful chapter of their childhood with a relaxed and beautiful equine portrait experience.
