Jadey & George

There’s something truly special about being invited back to photograph the same partnership more than once. It’s one of the greatest compliments a photographer can receive — a quiet acknowledgement that the artwork we created together meant something, and that there is more of the story still to tell.

This late summer, I had the joy of returning to Jadey and her gorgeous grey gelding, George, at their beautiful home on the edge of the Peak District. Our first session together had already created some of my favourite portraits, so this time came with a new challenge:

How do we create something completely different, something fresh, while still honouring who they are?

Our first session together took place in very different conditions, so coming back in late summer gave us an entirely new palette to work with — warm tones, soft light, mature greenery, and that unmistakable golden haze that only August can bring.

And for the first time, thanks to the incredibly dry summer, we were allowed onto the beautiful manicured garden — something that wasn’t possible during our previous shoot.

I have to say… a well-kept garden is fast becoming one of my favourite places to photograph horses.

It’s elegant. It’s timeless. And it frames a horse beautifully, like stepping into a countryside dream.

George looked absolutely magnificent against the structured hedges, soft lawns, and gentle palette of late-summer colour. The setting suited him perfectly — refined, calm, and quietly striking.

This time, we also had two very enthusiastic additions to the session: the donkeys.

Their big ears popping over the stone wall were impossible not to photograph, and they brought such a lovely burst of character and humour to the shoot. Every equine family has its quirks, and I love capturing those small, joyful details that make your home yours.

One of the most beautiful parts of this job is being trusted to document a story as it unfolds over the years.

People often ask why someone might come back for a second, third, or even fourth session — and the answer is simple:

Because our horses change.

Because we change.

Because every season looks and feels different.

Because these moments don’t stay the same forever.

The bond you have with your horse deepens.

Your surroundings shift.

The light, the seasons, the details — they all evolve.

Returning gives you a chance to preserve a new chapter. To create artwork that, when displayed together, tells a fuller, richer story of your life with your horse.

With Jadey and George, that continuity meant we could build on what we knew worked beautifully, while also exploring new ideas, new locations, and new moments of connection.

It’s a privilege — one I never take lightly.

This session with Jadey, George, and their charming donkeys was everything I love about equine photography: trust, connection, creativity, and the joy of capturing a partnership in a completely new light.
