A Bond Beyond Words: Kayleigh & Luna’s Special Portrait Session

Back in May, I had the privilege of capturing something truly special — a portrait session with Kayleigh and her beautiful homebred chestnut mare, Luna.

Luna isn’t just any horse. She is Kayleigh’s dream brought to life, carefully bred from her beloved mare, Doris. Heartbreakingly, Doris had to be put to sleep just twelve weeks after Luna was born, leaving Kayleigh with a bittersweet gift — a piece of Doris that lives on in Luna every single day.

For our session, Luna wore her mum’s bridle — a small but deeply meaningful touch that spoke volumes about the love and connection between Kayleigh, Luna, and the memory of Doris.

But this story isn’t just about loss — it’s about the incredible strength we find in the companionship of our horses. Kayleigh herself faces a number of health challenges, but through it all, Luna has been her constant. Horses have an extraordinary way of giving us purpose, comfort, and hope when we need it most. They listen without judgement, they sense our moods, and they stand by us when we feel like no one else can.

Watching Kayleigh and Luna together was a reminder of just how profound this bond can be. It’s in the quiet moments — the soft nose pressed into a hand, the gentle nuzzle on a shoulder, the way they simply know when we need them most.
