I had the absolute pleasure of being commissioned by Jenny to photograph her daughter Molly with her beautiful event horse, Red, as a truly special birthday gift. The session took place at their stunning family farm in Costock – the perfect backdrop for creating timeless portraits.

From the moment I arrived, I was spoilt for choice when it came to locations. We began at the charming garden gate, before moving into the soft, long grass beneath the shade of an oak tree. Later, we wandered down to the wildflower meadow at the bottom of the drive - simply heavenly.

What makes portrait sessions like this so special is how different they are from the images taken while out competing. Competition photographs capture skill, movement, and precision, but portraits reveal something deeper: the emotion, connection, and unspoken understanding between horse and rider.

The relationship Molly shares with Red is one filled with trust and affection, and being able to preserve those moments in artwork is something truly priceless. These photographs don’t just show what they look like together – they speak a thousand words about who they are together. And they capture a different side of their bond to that which tackles those huge eventing tracks!

It wasn’t just Red who featured in this session, either. We welcomed some very important family members into the portraits too – Molly’s dog George, her mum Jenny with her mare Gilly, and Jenny’s sweet dog Hetti. Together, they made the session even more meaningful, capturing not only the bond between Molly and Red, but the love that flows through the whole family.

Sessions like this are why I adore what I do. They celebrate not only the beauty of the horses, but also the deep connections we share with them – moments that deserve to be remembered for generations.
