A Mother, a Daughter and Their Love of Horses...


One of my favourite things about being an equine photographer is getting to capture the relationships that horses bring into our lives, and my August portrait session with Tamarah, her mum Jacqueline, and their gorgeous horses Spider and Dancer was a particularly lovely example.


I first met Tamarah and Jacqueline at Burghley Horse Trials. It was such a pleasure to welcome them for their portrait experience, and I couldn't wait to photograph them together.

There's something really special about a mother and daughter sharing a love of horses. It's a passion that brings them together, creates countless memories and gives them something wonderful to enjoy side by side.


For their session, we wanted to celebrate both relationships: Tamarah with Spider, Jacqueline with Dancer, and, of course, the four of them together.

And as it turned out, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful location!

Golden Fields, Beautiful Stables and a Photographer in Her Element!


I've photographed horses in some incredible locations over the years, but this gorgeous Northamptonshire yard was an absolute dream. Honestly, I think I spent most of the afternoon squealing with excitement as we discovered one beautiful backdrop after another!

It was August, and after such a hot, dry summer, the surrounding fields had turned the most beautiful golden beige. We started amongst the long grasses, with rolling countryside views stretching out behind Tamarah, Jacqueline and their horses.


From there, we headed down towards a lovely pond, where the landscape suddenly became beautifully lush and green. With a charming wooden gate and a little cabin tucked into the surroundings, we had so many gorgeous opportunities for photographs.

But the excitement didn't stop there.


Back at the yard, the owner very kindly allowed us to use her private stable block, and I was completely in my element.

Beautiful wooden stables, colourful flowers spilling from a trough and a perfectly positioned overhanging tree that I could photograph through. It was one of those locations where everywhere I looked, I spotted another photograph waiting to happen.

We made the most of each setting, capturing individual portraits with Spider and Dancer alongside some lovely photographs of Tamarah and Jacqueline together.


And to finish, we headed onto the driveway, where the evening light was filtering beautifully through the trees.

Tamarah had brought along her favourite jumper, which she really wanted to include, so we finished with some wonderfully relaxed photographs of her having a cuddle with Spider.

Such a lovely way to end an already gorgeous afternoon.

Celebrating the Memories We Make Together...


What I particularly loved about this portrait session was that we weren't simply photographing two beautiful horses.

We were celebrating something that Tamarah and Jacqueline share.

The early mornings, the days spent at the yard, the adventures with their horses and all those little moments that become such an important part of family life.


Having individual portraits with Spider and Dancer was lovely, but bringing everyone together created something even more meaningful. Photographs that celebrate not only the relationships they have with their horses, but also the wonderful connection between mother and daughter.


That's one of the things I love most about creating equine portraits. They're not just photographs of how life looks right now; they're a way of remembering how it feels.

I hope that whenever Tamarah and Jacqueline look back at their photographs, they'll remember that beautiful August afternoon. The golden fields, the gorgeous sunshine, their wonderful horses and all the laughter we shared along the way.

It really was such a pleasure to photograph them, and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful introduction to my August portrait sessions.
