I recently had the pleasure of spending a wonderful day with the Townsend family at their family farm in Lichfield. This session was a true family affair, with both sets of children involved—and of course, all their beloved ponies, too!
We kicked off the day straight into the deep end, gathering the kids and ponies together in the paddock for some group shots. When capturing bigger family portraits, it’s always best to choose a safe, contained space to minimise chaos—and the paddock, with its gate was a perfect backdrop.
Safety is always a priority, especially when ponies are involved, and it allowed everyone to relax and enjoy the experience without any worries.
From there, we wandered across the road to a gorgeous stubble field for some fun, playful shots with the boys. We even brought in the quad bike, which added an extra element of excitement. I love incorporating little touches like this into family sessions, it keeps the kids engaged and helps to capture their personalities perfectly.
Next, it was the girls’ turn to shine. They took centre stage with their ponies on the track outside the farm, creating some truly magical moments. Afterward, we moved into the stables for more intimate, cuddly shots, capturing those quiet, tender connections that make family life so special.
Towards the end of the session, I stumbled across granny’s garden, a hidden gem on the farm. The setting was stunning, so of course, we couldn’t resist bringing the ponies in for one final section of images. The soft, natural light and beautiful surroundings made for some breathtaking shots.
From the paddock to the golden stubble fields, the cozy stables, and the enchanting garden, we created a collection of portraits that truly reflect the Townsend family’s life together. For both sets of children, these images have been turned into gorgeous artwork that will be treasured for years to come.
Capturing these family moments is so important. Children grow up fast, and as they change, so do the dynamics of the family. Having portraits that freeze these memories in time allows families to look back and remember the love, the laughter, and even the little everyday details that make life so special.
Including the ponies in these portraits is equally meaningful, they’re often a huge part of family life, companions in play, and key figures in cherished memories.
It was an absolute joy to document the Townsend family’s life at their farm, and I feel so honoured to create artwork that they can treasure for generations.
