Elise, Mac & Katie

Continuing the theme of birthday presents this year, the lovely Elise was bought a shoot to celebrate her 18th birthday by her mum. I've actually known Mac, one of her ponies, for a long time. I met him first many years ago back when I was freelance riding on a yard I was working at.

It's lovely to be reunited with horses later down the line, especially when they have the most wonderful home and you can see how happy they are.

We did the shoot at their yard in Draycott In The Clay, a beautiful little small holding tucked away from the road down a hidden lane.

Summer was in full swing, the greens were lush and we started by heading off down the lane towards their favourite hacking bridle path.

I loved the dress we started with, the white & blue against the lush greens looked so delightful. We used a gorgeous track, and then around the corner was a cute little bridge, long soft grass and light fluttering through the leaves is enough for some stunning portraits for sure.

Back at the yard, we used an old brick building at the side of the field some something a little different. The fence line was lovely and rustic and gave us another great location, and of course we used the middle of the field to get the lovely drop off behind to the hedge and tree lined edge of the field.

We did photos with each horse individually and together, with a range of outfits as well.

Keeping everything relaxed during my shoots is my number one priority. Often standing around can be a little bland for the hotter horses and ponies, so I like to keep things moving quickly and changing positions and locations keeps them occupied. Shout out to Elise's mum, Julie, who was an amazing extra pair of hands and did a fabulous job of getting their ears forward.

We finished off with a couple of bareback shots of Elise riding Mac in the field. It was a really lovely way to wrap up the shoot. Happy memories that will be treasures for a lifetime.
