Some shoots are simply a joy from start to finish — and my morning with Kate, her gorgeous thoroughbred Gunner, her husband Ben, and their adorable cockapoo Ziggy was exactly that.

We met on a perfect summer’s morning in June at their yard in the beautiful Peak District village of Crich. Surrounded by rolling green hills and views that could take your breath away, it was the ideal setting for a luxury equine portrait session. The air was warm, the light was stunning, and Gunner was on his very best behaviour — a complete gentleman throughout.

One of the things I loved most about this shoot was how much of a team effort it became. Kate’s parents came along to lend a hand, and their care and attention made all the difference. They went above and beyond — even steaming Kate’s wedding dress right there on the yard so it looked absolutely perfect in the images.

It was such a special touch, and it reminded me that behind every beautiful image is often a whole team working together.

We created portraits of Kate and Gunner that truly capture their connection, and we also made sure to include the rest of the family in the story.

After delivering the final collection, I received the most heartwarming email from Kate’s dad, Trevor, which I’m sharing here with their kind permission:

“May I say thank you so much for the stunning collection of images you have produced of Kate and Gunner, I have never seen such beauty in equine photography. I have a very impressive collection of photos of Kate and Gunner in action at dressage venues but they cannot compare with what I enjoyed viewing yesterday evening. It was so refreshing to see Kate and Gunner away from and not dressed for competition. Seeing Kate and Gunner so relaxed and happy is a revelation.

Imogen, you are an amazing photographer with a very creative approach to your subjects and surroundings. You have provided us with the best images of Kate and Gunner I have ever had the pleasure of looking at. Every one is a winner.

Imogen, once again thank you so very much for our collection. You are a true professional and worthy of that status.

Keep up the excellent work.”

Reading those words meant the world to me. This is exactly why I do what I do — to create art that moves people, that captures a side of their loved ones (human or animal) they don’t always get to see, and that will be treasured for generations.

That’s what makes a luxury equine portrait session so special — it’s more than a day in front of the camera. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience you share with those you love most. Years from now, when Kate looks at these portraits hanging on her walls, she won’t just see beautiful light and rolling hills. She’ll remember the most lovely morning spent with people who mean so much to her.

Because in the end, it’s not just about the art we create — it’s about the moments you’ll never forget. And when teamwork, love, and a little Peak District magic come together, the results are unforgettable.
