I was so excited to work with Mia back in September! Our session had been booked for a while, and before we knew it, the year had flown by and it was finally time for her portrait session.
This session was extra special because it included both her first pony, Diddy, and her current horse, Daffy. Little and large, and both grey... what could be better?
For many children, a first pony isn’t just a pony; it’s a friend, a confidant, and a constant companion through so many milestones growing up. They’re there for early riding lessons, first competitions, and those quiet moments in the field that stay in your heart forever. For Mia, having Diddy by her side for so long makes him a hugely important part of her story.
Capturing these moments through portraiture is so precious. Sadly our ponies and horses aren't around for our whole lives. Getting these memories captured allows families to hold onto those magical connections forever; freezing those moments in time so they can be treasured for years to come.
While we didn’t get the pure sunset we were hoping for that evening, we were treated to the most beautiful hazy light.
The colours against the rolling Derbyshire hills were simply breathtaking. We enjoyed a wonderful variety of backgrounds on the farm—from a sunflower field to the new stable block, and the rolling fields and log grass out the back. Every spot felt like it was made for this session.
Working with Mia, Diddy, and Daffy reminded me of why I love what I do.
These sessions aren’t just photographs...they’re memories, stories, and emotions captured forever.
They’re an irreplaceable way to celebrate the bond that grows as a child grows, and to remember the ponies who help shape those formative years.
