There’s something about early spring that feels full of possibility. After the darker winter months, the first signs of the season arriving always feel special — softer evenings, fresh colour returning to the landscape and those little moments that tell you warmer days are on the way. For Sarah and Figs’ portrait session, we were lucky enough to be surrounded by beautiful spring details, from delicate daffodils to the soft golden light that seems to only appear at this time of year.
The combination created such a timeless, romantic feel and gave us the perfect backdrop for portraits that felt elegant and relaxed.
Figs may be a competition horse, but one of my favourite things about sessions like this is stepping away from the pressure, schedules and goals that naturally come with riding and competing.
So much of life with horses revolves around training plans, competitions and what's coming next. It’s easy to spend years working towards the next milestone without pausing to celebrate the relationship that sits underneath it all.
Portrait sessions create space for something different. There’s no pressure to perform, no expectations and no scores at the end of the day — just time to slow down and appreciate the horse that is beside you through all of it. The quiet moments, the familiar expressions and the connection that can sometimes get lost in the busyness of everyday life are often the things that become most meaningful to look back on.
As horse owners, we spend so much of our lives planning for the next thing — the next season, the next competition, the next goal. But horses have a way of making us realise how quickly time moves.
If you’ve ever wished you could bottle up the feeling of this stage of life with your horse — the partnership you’ve built, the little routines, and the moments that feel ordinary now but won’t always be — a portrait session gives you the chance to preserve it beautifully. Created as artwork for your home, these portraits become more than photographs; they become a reminder of a chapter you never want to forget.
