The Jackson Family

The Jackson Family’s shoot was just the cutest – and we had the full crew! The girls, Isabella and Elsie, their ponies, Fudge and Puzzle, and the newest (and cheekiest) member of the family, Nutty the puppy.

We started off with some individual portraits in the stables, this is always a good place to start as the ponies are always super relaxed here, and it avoids any temptation for the ponies to pull to the grass or wander off. It allows me to basically bag some stunning portrait right from the off in the best, relaxed way possible.

We did the session at Poplars Farm in Derbyshire, where the ponies are stabled. It’s such a lovely spot, and that evening the light was perfect – warm, golden, and just made everything glow. The yard is so well-kept, with flowers and greenery everywhere, so it looked amazing in the photos.

We then moved onto some family portraits, which was good fun. I love the challenge of getting everyone looking great together in one image. After that we then focussed on the girls with their ponies. I always say these shoots are so important because kids grow up so quickly – and before you know it, they’ve outgrown their ponies. Having these memories of them together is something you can never get back if you don’t capture it now.

Once the pony portraits were done, Nutty had his turn. He ran around, made us all laugh, and gave us some brilliant photos – he might be small, but he definitely knows how to steal the show!

Sessions like this are exactly why I love being a family photographer in Derbyshire – it’s all about capturing real moments, with the people (and animals!) you love the most.
