Lasimia & Carraig

It was such a privilege to spend time with Lasimia and her gorgeous big grey horse, Carraig, back in October. From the very start, it was clear how much she loves him, and being trusted to capture their special bond was an absolute joy.

Husband Clarke was part of the session too, alongside their two lovely cocker spaniels, Minky and Mr Blue Sky. We spent the morning at the yard in Foston, Derbyshire, moving between a few outfits and locations to really bring out their personalities. I particularly loved how Lasimia’s choice of jewellery and small details added such meaningful touches to the images – it’s these personal elements that make a session feel truly unique and heartfelt.

Carraig is very special – a big boy with a personality that shines through. He’s instantly recognisable wherever he goes and was a delight to work with, clearly enjoying being the centre of attention.

While Lasimia has many beautiful images of herself riding and competing with Carraig, having some relaxed family portraits at home was a really lovely way to capture their everyday connection. When your horses and dogs are such an important part of your life, it’s so special to create portraits that celebrate the whole family together in a more intimate, personal setting.

Despite a few showers throughout the session, the combination of sun and dark rolling clouds created some incredible light that really elevated the final gallery. And, of course, there was plenty of tea consumed along the way, which is always a bonus in my book!

We wrapped up the session letting Minky and Mr Blue Sky have a good run around, capturing those playful spaniel ears flying in the wind – always my favourite way to end a session on a high note.

It’s sessions like these, filled with love, laughter, and connection, that make my job so incredibly rewarding. There’s something so special about capturing the everyday moments alongside the grand ones – the quiet glances, the joyful laughter, and the little details that tell a story all their own.

The resulting images truly celebrate the bond between Lasimia, Clarke, Carraig, and their beloved dogs, preserving not just how they look, but how they feel together as a family. These are the kinds of memories that will be treasured for years to come, bringing warmth and joy every time they’re revisited, and reminding them of the love and connection that surrounds them every day.
