Late October gifted us one of those perfect autumn days for Lesley’s portrait session with her beautiful Connemara gelding, Rocky. Cannock Chase was completely glowing with rich seasonal colour — deep golds, burnt oranges and warm earthy tones created the most breathtaking backdrop for their session.

The woodland trails were quiet and peaceful, allowing us to take our time and truly enjoy the experience. Lesley also brought along her lovely dog Skye, who thoroughly enjoyed exploring the forest and happily dipped in and out of photographs throughout the session, adding an extra layer of personality and meaning to the images.

Sessions like this are always about more than photographs — they are about creating an experience and capturing memories in a place that feels calm, natural and authentic.

One of the things Lesley shared with me when she commissioned her portrait session was that she already had plenty of photographs of her riding Rocky. What she really wanted was something different — something that celebrated their partnership away from training and competition.

Lesley wanted artwork that captured the connection between herself, Rocky and Skye together, reflecting the real heart of their relationship. This is something I hear often from horse owners; while ridden photographs document achievements, portrait sessions allow space to tell the deeper story.

I absolutely love being invited into this part of my clients’ journeys. I get to hear about their adventures, their milestones, the challenges they’ve overcome together and the memories they cherish most. It is such a privilege to witness the quiet moments of trust, affection and partnership that truly define the bond between horse and owner.

Following Lesley’s session, we designed a stunning bespoke 3-in-1 wall artwork piece that beautifully showcases her connection with Rocky and Skye. This carefully curated piece now sits proudly in her home, and she absolutely loves seeing those memories displayed as artwork rather than simply stored on a device.

For me, this is always the most rewarding part of the process — transforming meaningful moments into tangible heirloom pieces that can be enjoyed every single day. Portrait sessions like Lesley’s are about celebrating partnerships, telling personal stories and creating artwork that becomes part of a home and family legacy for years to come.
